Yesterday I got to spend some time with my best gal pal Jere, a real doll with impeccable taste in fashion. When she showed me her latest finds from the Anthropologie sale rack, I nearly squealed with delight when one of them turned out to be this adorable cotton, nautical-print romper. I had seen the romper the last time I was in the store, but hadn't wanted to pay full price (though it was a fairly reasonable--for Anthro anyway--$60.) It turns out that my friend had picked it up for a mere $10--hearing that did cause me to errupt into squeals. We promptly hit the mall and I was delighted to pick one up for myself--the last in my size, no less--for that wonderfuly tiny sum. Since my Sweetie and I are headed to Nashville soon, and since it promises to be rather warm and humid there, this little number is definitely going with me!

Photo Inspiration – Ann Sheridan
One of my favorite actresses is Ann Sheridan, a talented redhead with a husky voice and a fabulously elegant and earthy air. This Texas-born beauty, known as the “Oomph Girl” (a nickname given to her by Warner Brothers, and one she loathed) was more than just a pretty face—she was a standout actress with a knack for comedy. Here Ann shows us how to look good when the weather heats up—I don't know about you, but I’d certainly love to have a few of these outfits!

Anywhere but here...
Some time ago I was contacted by a street artist interested in using one of my photos (taken by Atomic Age Pictures) as an inspiration for an upcoming piece. Yesterday I received photos of the finished artwork from 2:12, and to say that I am utterly amazed by this talented artist would be an understatement! His artwork is done completely with stencils and spray paint (check out this video clip to see him in action), and takes several hours to complete. Anywhere but here... is painted on a building somewhere in Houston--if any of you can identify where exactly it is (part of the fun is discovering the artwork), I'd love to find out!
Of course, I was wearing Able Grable's Miss Iris Henderson in the photo he used, and I think it looks quite fine done up in paint!

Check out the rest of 2:12's incredible artwork over at his blog!

The Vintage Home
My sister Kelly is an amazingly creative writer with a great sense of humor. She may not be into vintage style quite like I am, but she does love retro homes, and as she is a real estate agent, she is working on carving out her niche in vintage housing . She just started a new blog that promises to be packed with lots of retro home goodness—check it out! Today’s feature is “Taco Tuesdays”, and she’s posted a rather delicious recipe for meatloaf with all the trimmings. It’s only 8:00 in the morning here, but I’m wishing it was dinner time!
Scrub Me Mama (with a Boogie Beat)
Thought I'd share a clip (filmed by Doug Monce of Atomic Age Pictures) from the Centennial Fashion Show--my fave dance partner, David (he dressed as John Dillinger in the show), and I performed a short dance demonstration to the song "Scrub Me Mama (with a Boogie Beat)" to close the show. I hope you enjoy it!

Jerome
Matt and I took a trip up to Jerome for our shoot over the weekend, and the change of scenery (and weather--it was a few degrees cooler with a nice breeze) was certainly a nice reprieve from the big city. Jerome is an interesting place; a once bustling mining establishment that became a ghost town in the 50s, only to be revived again by artists and hippie-types beginning in the 70s. Jerome was a notorious wild west town, and is rumored to be haunted by many ghosts from its sordid past. There are plenty of places to shoot--lots of nooks and crannies and surprisingly colorful backdrops which all make for interesting settings (though we didn't run into any ghosts this time!.). I wore three outfits for this shoot--a sherbet plaid 50s day dress, a 40s faux sarong skirt in a warm plaid paired with a muslin peasant blouse, and a jade green print playsuit from F21. Here are a few photos; the rest can be found on Myspace.

Danger Girl
Over the holiday weekend I had a couple of fantastic shoots with two of my favorite photographers, Matt Carson and Doug Monce. One of the outfits Doug photographed me in is this fantastic 1960s crocheted romper, provided by Matilda’s Vintage Closet. Doesn’t it remind you of something a Bond Girl would wear? It’s certainly a different look for me, but it was just too fun to pass up!
