Of Polka Dots and Playsuits

One of my favorite outfits is this adorable 40s midriff top and shorts set, made by Hollywood Premiere in a soft aqua and cream polka dot print. It’s a candy sweet confection with piping trim, gathered sleeves and a shirred bust—I have to say it’s one of my all-time favorite finds! I bought it from the fantastic Vee Vin Tage—these lovely gals sell vintage in addition to designing and sewing the most wonderful reproductions. They found this set at a popular vintage store in California—apparently Hillary Duff had just tried it on. I’m sure glad she passed on it, and even more glad that V Vintage decided to part with it as well! These photos were taken by the talented Matt Carson, one of my favorite portrait photographers to work with, at an afternoon shoot a few days ago.

Mail Call

I was thrilled to pieces when I came home from work today and found a package from NudeeDudee waiting for me! Isn't this the sweetest outfit? The green was even richer in person, and the fabric Kim used is so wonderfully drapey. And of course, you gotta love the cactus print pockets! I tried it on as soon as I opened the package (please excuse the wrinkles ;-)), and had my Sweetie take a snap in front of one of the desert plants in our front yard. I can't wait to wear this for an "offical" photo shoot, and I just know it will be a favorite outfit of mine this summer!

Birthday Goodies

My Sweetie treated me to a NudeeDudee outfit for my birthday--I'm so excited for it to arrive! I've been drooling over her designs for ages, and practically squealed with delight when I saw this one--I just love the green and red color combination and cactus print feedsack material pockets. Can't wait to wear it this summer!

Latest Finds--Polka Dot Platforms

Okay, I am supposed to be saving right now, but when I came across these marvelous 40s platforms I just had to bid! I mean, I really did need a pair of white shoes to replace my current pair (which I adore but are too delicate to wear except for photo shoots these days), and it really is hard to find white platforms in a size 7.5. Especially ones with ankle straps and cute polka dot cutouts! So, I think I was justified in snagging these, don’t you think? ;-)

I'd love to hear about your latest finds--what has found its way into your closet recently?

Deal of the Week

Yesterday I got to spend some time with my best gal pal Jere, a real doll with impeccable taste in fashion. When she showed me her latest finds from the Anthropologie sale rack, I nearly squealed with delight when one of them turned out to be this adorable cotton, nautical-print romper. I had seen the romper the last time I was in the store, but hadn't wanted to pay full price (though it was a fairly reasonable--for Anthro anyway--$60.) It turns out that my friend had picked it up for a mere $10--hearing that did cause me to errupt into squeals. We promptly hit the mall and I was delighted to pick one up for myself--the last in my size, no less--for that wonderfuly tiny sum. Since my Sweetie and I are headed to Nashville soon, and since it promises to be rather warm and humid there, this little number is definitely going with me!

Latest Finds

Because a girl can never have too many Bakelite cherries!

And since the hot weather makes me want to dress in tropical attire, I just couldn't say no to this 1940s jersey frock in a splashy pink and red anthurium print.

So, tell me about your latest finds!

Cool Mint Delight

When I spotted this little mint green number, I just couldn't resist snapping it up! It's made out of an interesting open weave fabric (I've found a few dresses in this material; it's very light and cool, perfect for hot summer days) in the cutest floral and bird print. I can't wait for it to arrive!

I also found a fantastic pair of repro wedges by Faryl Robin--I just love the Mexican feel of these!

Latest Finds

I snagged this late 1930s-early 1940s jacket a couple of weeks ago at Matilda's Closet. It had just come in the very day I stopped by, and Rose had taken photos to list it on eBay--but of course it "needed" to go home with me instead. The pictures don't really show off the deep burgundy wool crepe; the fur is a rich black as well (not sure if it is seal or sheared beaver—regardless, I have a little 40s tilt hat that will match perfectly!) It was a bit of a frivolous purchase I’m afraid, but I simply couldn’t resist such a glamorous little number!

Green with Envy

An emerald green 1940s suit has been on my wishlist for a long time, and so I was quite excited to find this one on eBay and even more pleased to win it for a veritable steal! I especially love the jacket's hem and its detailed fabric-covered buttons; it will be fun to mix the jacket and skirt with other pieces in my wardrobe, too.

Lemon Chiffon

A few weeks ago I ordered a custom bolero sweater made by the seller Dixabilly, who just let me know that it is ready to be mailed. She knitted it up from a forties pattern in a delicious lemon yellow, and I am anxiously awaiting for it to arrive! It will match quite a few of my outfits (I'm rather fond of this shade of yellow) and will be just the thing to wear once it cools off a few more degrees! I suspect I will be ordering this little sweater in quite a few more colors as well ;-)

Latest Finds

My Sweetie surprised me with this knit top I had been eyeing the other day. I think it has great 1930s-40s styling (when it cools off I plan on pairing it with wide-leg trousers and a beret)--can you believe it came from Charlotte Russe?

I wore it to work today paired with a 1940s black wool pencil skirt (one of my many Matilda's Closet finds), black patent Twolips heels, and my 1950s faux leopard fur necklace and drop earrings set (a surprisingly inexpensive eBay score.) My hair is in my favorite double rolled style with a gardenia accent, and I am wearing my favorite Lip Ink Red.
