Thursday Tunes--Crazy People

Today's tune features the wonderful harmony of The Boswell Sisters, a trio that influenced many well-known singers including the Andrews Sisters (who started out as Boswell Sisters imitators) and Ella Fitzgerald (Ella idolized Connie, and patterned her singing style after hers.)

Sticking to those New Year Resolutions--eBay Goodies

1940s purple and hot pink crepe evening gown

Well, I pledged that I would organize my clothing collection in 2011, and here's my first round of eBay listings! I've listed a little something for everyone--from a 1940s glam evening gown to a classic 40s day dress, with a couple of stellar western pieces for good measure. Let me know if you see something you like--more items to follow in the coming weeks ;-)

Deco Doll

Doug of Atomic Age Pictures and I decided to do a little something different for our most recent shoot, and came up with a deco-inspired series on the waterfront at Tempe Town Lake. I wore two dresses from Matilda’s Closet—the first is a late 1930s black taffeta evening gown studded with rhinestones, the second a 30s-style reproduction with rhinestone trim—and had my hair done in a modern take of a 30s-style. Since it was quite chilly, I also wore my Able Grable capelet. The finished look was a fun step away from our usual favorite eras!

On another note, I’ve been terribly neglectful of my blog due to my very busy schedule of late. However, I want to remedy this, and would love to hear from you—what sorts of posts would you like to see here? what sorts of posts would you like to see here? I do have another Motion Pinup in the works, and a hair tutorial should follow soon as well—what other suggestions do you have for me?

Hawaiian Dream

Last week I had a photo shoot with the amazing Matt Carson, and I had an opportunity to wear the Hawaiian dress I mentioned a few posts back. I had it made from a late 1930s pattern, and asked the seamstress to customize it with peek-a-boo cutouts at the midriff and back. She paired it with a matching bolero and scarf, and I was thrilled with the way it turned out!

Ready to Roll

Able Grable has released three new frocks --the Ready Hedy the Miss Iris Henderson and the Miss Lola Burns!

The Ready Hedy is a clever little wrap dress--I'm wearing the sunny yellow eyelet version--that proves glamour can be perfectly practical!

The Miss Iris Henderson is a fabulous stunner in red, gray and gold plaid satin--just the very frock for all you starlets out there!

The Miss Lola Burns is the dress to choose when you want to stand out in a crowd--its snappy black and white polka dots and unique "capelet" sleeves are simply divine!

You can't go wrong with an Able Grable design--there's something to suit every occasion and fashion mood--and these three creations are not to be missed!
